The soothing melodies and crystal clear tones are the reasons why we love listening to wind chimes. When you hear the perfect tone at the right frequency, the body synchronizes and the stress of the day just disappears as you listen to the melody of the wind chime.
When it comes to the tones and melodies produced by a wind chime, the length and width of the tubing make all the difference. Shorter wind chimes will create tones that are higher in pitch but shorter in duration than a larger wind chime. Therefore, a short wind chime will produce tones that are more distinctive but they won’t carry very far. For those wanting to hear a wind chime outside but not while inside, a smaller wind chime is best if the sitting area is at least 15-20 feet from the interior of the home.
However, if you have a sitting area right next to the home but want to minimize wind chime sound on the interior—a larger wind chime may be better. Much like church bells, large wind chimes produce deep tones that can carry a great distance. For a sitting area adjacent to the home, a larger wind chime is less likely to be heard inside than a smaller chime which produces higher, more distinctive, tones.
So which size is right for you? Smaller chimes are sometimes best when it comes to reducing road noise but the larger chimes seem to be more soothing.
